When it comes to insulating a winter jacket nothing beats the natural characteristics of down.

Down is the under-plumage of waterfowl and takes the form of light and fluffy filaments. It has a complex cellular construction and as such breathes, absorbs and dispels body moisture. The "arms" of a down cluster interlock, trapping air and forming a thermal barrier, keeping body warmth in and cold air out.

The down is washed, sanitized, sorted and tested to the highest standards and under strict supervision before it used in the fabrication of our garments. The final result is a product that is high in lofting power (and therefore warmth) while practically weightless.

Here at Penfield we use an 80/20 blend of down to feather. We believe that this Premium blend provides the perfect balance between insulation and weight for the widest array of winter situations.
